UOS startup

Parent Previous Next

When UOS starts, the Init program is run to prepare for, and load, the UOS operating system.

When Init starts, it sounds a tone to indicate that it is ready to enter command-mode, if desired.  If nothing is typed within 2 seconds of the tone, Init will immediately start up UOS on the default boot device.  If this device is a distribution medium, such as an install CDROM, the UOS install program will be started.  If any character is typed on the keyboard within 2 seconds of the tone, Init will enter command mode, which allows the user to perform system configuration operations.

Note: if there is no system console connected to the computer, UOS will automatically be started.

If UOS doesn't start, this can indicate that there is no install media mounted and no installed copy of UOS to boot.
